Good to go, at long last

07. June 2021A week following the first rounds of the respective national championships in France and Great Britain, the curtains go up on the FIA European Truck Racing Championship this coming Friday, three weeks later than originally scheduled. As things stand, COVID-19 will not influence the 2021 truck racing season as much as last year, at least not in those countries on the ETRC calendar.
It certainly won’t be everything the fans, the teams, the sponsors, indeed everyone who has a soft spot for the sport, have come to expect – not to start with, at any rate. In the moment spectators will be allowed only on the stands, with enforced separation and hygiene measures dictated by the authorities at the respective locations.
Everyone is happy, nevertheless, that the trucks are finally going to be racing again. Encouragingly, most sponsors have stuck with their teams through the 2020 season – and a few new ones have climbed on board.
A goodly 16 pilots, including two lady racers, have registered for the full season, and a few more can certainly be expected at individual rounds.
