Saturday in Misano Part 2 - The season’s first win goes to Jochen Hahn

25. May 2019Misano - Jochen Hahn was every bit as dominant in the first race as he’d been in free practice and qualifying. The Iveco pilot beat Lacko to Turn One and stayed comfortably ahead throughout, crossing the line 2.3s ahead.
The first real battle was for P2. Lacko had Albacete furiously snapping at his heels, but the wily Czech blocked the Spaniard’s every attempt to overtake.
The podium formation crystallised on the first lap itself. The rest of the positions were as relentlessly contested, leaving a profusion of plastic parts strewn all over in the initial stages, a reminder of the ferocity of the fights up and down the field. Janiec was an early casualty, forced out by a steering system failure.
Steffi Halm in P4 became the next target, but only Kiss was able to break the German’s resistance, and that late in the race.
Lenz finished P6, ahead of Reinert and Recuenco, the Spaniard securing the first pole position of his career on the (partially) reversed start grid for Race 2. Brit Oly Janes (Buggyra Freightliner) and MAN pilot Thomas Robineau (FRA) took the remaining points on offer.
As we’ve come to expect, this race too had multiple drive-through penalties awarded. But tankpool24 rookie Fabio Citignola (GER) had everyone scratching their heads in wonder at the number of times he pitted in his black Mercedes – it was impossible for him to have picked up so many penalties. As it turned out, the problem was with a sensor on his truck, and only when he went out after each recalibration could the team test whether they’d got it right.
Recuenco, Janes, and Robineau took the honours in the Grammer Truck Cup. „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Steffi Halm) was the top-scoring team, ahead of Buggyra International Racing (Janes / Lacko) and Löwen Power (Albacete / Lenz).
