Buggyra 2014

12. December 2013Buggyra presented an all-Czech lineup for the 2014 FIA European Truck Racing Championship in the second week of December. Needless to say, permanent driver David Vršecký was a shoo-in. At the Buggyra autumn tests at Most a month ago (see “Testing for new season begins”, our report on 8 Nov 2013), a number of drivers of different nationalities were given a go at the Freightliners. And at that time already, truckracing.de / truckrace.info partner Meritor was at the forefront of the action off the track. PR boss Malte Raddatz told us that his US-headquartered company was very keen to sponsor a truck that “every kid” in the US would recognise, and a Freightliner would thus be ideal. Just who would pilot another Buggyra-Freightliner was left open.
At that time Adam Lacko, who’d raced in the bonneted Buggyra earlier in 2005, was reckoned to have the best chances. And that’s how it’s played out — Lacko, with Meritor as his primary sponsor, is indeed the second pilot in the Czech team. But there’s also going to be a third race-Freightliner. This one will mostly be used as an exhibition truck, but will also do duty as a test vehicle. Buggyra’s tests are usually carried out by Michal Matĕjovský, son of Czech truck race legend Stan Matĕjovský. Junior has driven the odd race for Buggyra in the last few years, and will also race a Freightliner, the third one, in some of the ETRC events in the coming season.
