Sunday in Jarama – part 2

07. October 2012Jarama - When the first race on Sunday started the sun broke through the clouds. The temperatures went up to 25 C° with over 32,000 spectators were visiting the races.
In the first race Hahn had taken on the lead after quarreling with Albacete over the first position and they also raced alone until the end. They crossed the finish line almost 30 seconds earlier than the other drivers. Bösiger placed 3rd. In the internal duel of MKR he came off second best. However, in the course of race he was able to pass Lacko first and then also Oestreich later on. Lacheze placed 6th ahead of Kiss and Mäkinen, who had placed 8th and therefore won the Pole for the second race of the day. The last two places in the top-ten went to Janiec as well as the Spaniard Javier Mariezcurrena (MAN). Vrsecky was in bad luck, during the race he had to quit due to technical problems even though he was on the 5th position. For Ellen Lohr (GER) it was a little bit better. The only woman in the truck racing business of the FIA ETRC always gets a lot of attention. In order to be able to race in the front, her tankpool24-Mercedes simple does not have enough horsepower and that becomes especially clear on such a race track like the one in Jarama. The MB-Motorsport-Team did not really expect any points and was happy with the 16th rank, considering that she started into the race from position number 19.
The Pole position did not bring Mäkinen any luck. Right at the start he had to let Kiss pass him and take the lead and only after one lap the Fin had fallen back to place 8 – until after a few more laps he had to quit. After the first lap Kiss was already having an advantage of over 3 seconds – and that was enough eventually. Behind the Hungarian, the rest of the drivers were giving each other a hard time and that made it easier for Kiss to win for the second time this weekend. For a long time it seemed like as if two MKR drivers would be on the podium (Lacko and Bösiger) apart from Kiss. But two laps before the end of the race, Albacete had the edge over the Swiss and also Hahn was able to pass Bösiger in this very moment. One after another the group crossed the finish line right after Kiss. There was a bigger gap between Bösiger and the other drivers that were in a fight for the 6th position. Janiec, Oestreich and Mariezcurrena were only six tenth apart from each other when they passed the finish line in this order. The last points were won by Vrsecky and the German MAN driver René Reinert.
Ellen Lohr did not have as much luck as her compatriot. During the race the Mercedes driver had been on place number 15 in a group of 30 truck racers, until she had to turn into Parc Fermé due to a broken damper suspension. In the championship Hahn has extended his lead. He has 485 points which give him an advantage of 29 points before the final race. Albacete has 456 points and behind the Spaniard are Lacko with 304, Oestreich with 298 as well as Vrsecky and Bösiger with 247 points each.
