Sunday in Most – part 1

02. September 2012Most - At six in the morning, early birds got caught by a rain shower, but other than that the weather turned out to be as forecasted on this day of the 8th race of the European Truck Racing Championship in Most (CZE). It was cloudy, but stayed dry and the temperature was around 20 C°.
Before it all started the head of the TRO and FIA coordinator, Fabien Calvet, had to carry out an “official act”. Due to the subsequent disqualification of Markus Oestreich (GER) in the last race on Saturday, there was a change in the team championship. The head of MKR-Renault, Mario Kress, had to trade in the winner’s cup for the second place. Both drivers from Blaise/Bouzige Truck Racing Team, Dominique Orsini (FRA) and Jean-Pierre Blaise (BEL), joyfully received the winner’s cup. In the morning Jean-Christophe Quiret (FRA) participated in the warm-up session with his Foden that had almost burned down just one day ago.
In order to protect the tires, the drivers only drove 2 laps in the timed practice. Both MAN drivers Antonio Albacete (ESP) and Jochen Hahn (GER), Oestreich, the Swiss Markus Bösiger (Renault), both Czechs David Vrsecky (Buggyra Freightliner) and Adam Lacko (Renault) were sure to be in the top ten – and they were right. The German Gerd Körber (Iveco) as well as the three MAN drivers Dominique Lacheze (FRA), Norbert Kiss (HUN) and Mika Mäkinen (FIN) were also in the group of ten for the SuperPole. Albacete, who won twice the previous day, only managed to move up to place 3 the lap before last. This was very surprising and in the first row of the starting grid in front of him were Hahn and Bösiger. Oestreich, Lacko, Vrsecky, Lacheze, Kiss, Körber and Mäkinen completed the starting grid.
