Truck Racing 'Veterans' – Ross Garrett and Lutz Bernau

10. March 2006Up to last year's season both truck racing 'veterans' had not only the same age in common, but they were also team leaders and doubled as drivers during their Truckracing time. But in 2005 Lutz Bernau laid his driving job into the hands of Antonio Albacete, and henceforth, worked only 'backstage'. Ross Garrett, however, contrary to all rumours, is said to continue driving this season on his last year's Foden with the CAT motor and with his old team. <br />
There was no question, however, that Lutz Bernau's MAN TGA with the Cepsa colours will be piloted by title holder Antonio Albacete. So the Bavarian didn’t need to spend much time looking for sponsors, but could have concentrated fully on the reconstruction of the RaceTruck. But alas, the 'Weather God' had other plans. The area around the Ammersee was covered in deep snow, and so the Bernau family and the team spent hours shovelling snow every day. Other things were delayed, too, because of the snow, e.g., they wanted the transporters and trailers having checked by the 'TÜV', but the snow was so deep they could not drive off their yard. That’s why for Bernau the first meeting for the testing on the 3rd week of March is too early, although he certainly would have been eager to test the new Goodyear Truck Racing tyres which will be available there. So the MAN TGA can do his first testing not before the end of March / beginning of April – only 1 week before the start of the season in Barcelona.
