17. February 2019Rumours are flying thick and fast about what moves teams, drivers, and sponsors are going to make before this coming season of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. Some of these are too far-fetched to take seriously. Others are highly probable, but await confirmation.
One development, however, we are now certain of. Twenty-one-year-old Lukas Hahn, grandson of truck racing veteran Konrad Hahn and son of five-times European champion Jochen, has acquired his competition licence and will make his racing debut driving an Iveco from the family workshops in the ADAC Mittelrhein Cup at the Truck Grand Prix on the Nürburgring.
The talented youngster provided ample evidence of his ability at the test days in Most (Czech Republic) last year. Having apprenticed as a mechanic with his father’s team, he also has an excellent grounding in the “business” of truck racing.
What Lukas is best known, nay, notorious for are his spectacular drifts. It was at the Iveco victory party at the Magirus premises in Ulm only last October that he left the visitors in thrall as he cornered – sideways – at breakneck speeds in an Iveco Daily light truck and pulled off several other stunts besides.
The Truck Grand Prix is the fourth round of this year’s championship, and Lukas could well earn the opportunity to show his skills off in any of the subsequent races as well.
