Friday in Jarama

06. October 2017Jarama - The 9th round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship at Circuito del Jarama, the finale of the 2017 season, has been blessed with beautiful weather. The sky is clear, the circuit is ablaze with sunlight, and the day temperatures are floating above 30°C. While parts of central Europe reel under severe storms, Madrid and its environs are experiencing the best summer weather one could hope for. And the congregated truck race community is, glad for the opportunity to take it easy.
The latest championship standings were the topic of discussion at a press conference yesterday. Czech Adam Lacko and his Buggyra Freightliner are best placed to win – he enjoys a comfortable 45-points lead, but with a maximum of 60 points up for grabs the title isn’t in the bag yet. If Lacko should survive the first race day with no significant damages, Buggyra could be celebrating on Saturday evening itself.
Those that didn’t absolutely have to be working on their trucks gathered at the karting track within the paddock for an afternoon of lazy competition, or played table football – with considerable gusto at times.
The action on track begins only tomorrow, with free practice and qualifying for the 19 pilots. Frenchman Anthony Janiec (MAN) has withdrawn at short notice.
