Sunday in Most Part 3 - Shane Brereton takes first win

03. September 2017Most - At the start of the concluding race of the Czech Truck Prix the 95,000 spectators could finally be glad for some sunshine. They also got to witness a very special race. Who’d have imagined that someone who hadn’t even made the Super Pole this morning would win – by almost eight seconds?
While Shane Brereton was the big winner, Sascha Lenz could be called the unlucky loser of this last race.
Polesitter Brereton beat Vršecký at the start and even Lenz was technically past the Buggyra pilot after half a lap. In the 180° Turn 10, Vršecký made his way back alongside the German’s MAN. The two continued side by side, the Buggyra drifting wide and forcing Lenz onto the grass. The rest of the pack gave the German no consideration either. A little later, after he’d been passed by Lacko as well, Lenz found himself in 8th place instead of the 2nd that he’d sought.
What unfolded thereafter was what nobody could have thought possible before the race – everyone expected the great hunt for Brer Rabbit to begin; instead, the Englishman simply extended his lead to win.
On his trail the pursuing pack led by Steffi Halm tried their hardest to unseat Vršecký, but the street-smart former champion fended off their every attack to keep 2nd place – only barely, but cheered the more wildly for it by the Czech fans.
As mentioned earlier, it was a peculiar race. Vršecký’s pursuers followed him for 10 laps like pearls on a string, lined up in half-second intervals, and you knew they all could have gone faster.
At the very end Kiss tried to break out of the chain. In the final corner he took a more direct line than Halm and made a sudden bid for 3rd place, but the MAN pilotess regained her composure in a fraction to salvage her position by less than four hundredths of a second.
The Mercedes pilot was followed home by Albacete, Hahn, Lacko, Lenz, Körber, and Smith in 10th. The gap between Vršecký and Smith was less than four seconds.
Brereton naturally also picked up the Promoter’s Cup victory ahead of José Rodrigues and Kleinnagelvoort.
Buggyra Racing 1969 (Vršecký / Lacko) was the top-scoring team this time, followed by Reinert Adventure (Halm / Lenz) and Truck Sport Bernau-Reboconort (Albacete / José Rodrigues).
Lacko’s championship leaf has grown – he now has 278 points, with Hahn in second on 218 followed by Halm (209), Kiss (201), Albacete (157), Lenz (113), and Körber (94).
