Sunday in Jarama Part 3 - Calvet takes his first ETRC win

03. October 2021Jarama - As the rescheduled start of the weekend’s concluding race approached, it was déjà vu for the truck racers – another of the participants in a race of the Spanish championship had dumped oil on the circuit and the marshals were frantically at it, cleaning up. This time, thankfully, the delay was much shorter and the formation lap could be flagged off at around 18:00.
Polesitter Téo Calvet beat André Kursim to the first corner and quickly built up a comfortable cushion, while the German was overtaken by compatriot and Iveco colleague Steffi Halm a couple of corners later.
Calvet and Halm pressed on unchallenged till the flag, but Kursim didn’t have it easy any longer. Till the 10th lap Jochen Hahn’s Iveco was all over his rear, before the reigning champ abruptly dropped away following a loss of power (Hahn finished the race in P9).
There was to be no relief for the Don’t Touch Iveco pilot, who now had Adam Lacko’s Buggyra clung to his crash guard all the way to the flag. Kursim led a quad train consisting of Lacko, Norbert Kiss, Sascha Lenz, and Antonio Albacete home, all five trucks crossing the line within two seconds.
Jamie Anderson came following after, with Hahn and Steffen Faas in the tankpool24 Scania bringing up the rearward.
Calvet’s first win in the ETRC also meant victory in the Goodyear Cup, ahead of Anderson and Faas.
Buggyra took the team honours, beating „Die Bullen von Iveco“ and Team Titan.
