Saturday in Le Mans Part 1 - Norbert Kiss takes pole

25. September 2021Le Mans - The sun had just risen over the treetops as the truck racers in the FIA series trundled out for their first free practice session at Circuit Bugatti. Dew overnight had left the track damp and somewhat slippery, and the primary endeavour for every driver was to get to grips with a circuit they’d last set tread on two years ago.
At the top of the charts were Norbert Kiss, Antonio Albacete, Sascha Lenz, Adam Lacko, and René Reinert. A couple of hours later, FP2 was run in near ideal weather and most of the top drivers did 12 laps, Kiss being the only one to reel out a succession of flying laps under 2:06. A 2:05.376 on his eighth was 1.5 seconds below his time in the earlier session. Hahn, Albacete, Lenz, and Lacko rounded out the Top 5.
With not much time till qualifying, some of the trucks made it out late. One hot lap later, most of the Top 10 were all back in the pits saving their tyres. Kiss topped the times yet again with 2:05.557, with Lenz, Albacete, Hahn, Faas, Halm, Kursim, Brereton, Anderson, and Lacko also easing into the Super Pole.
Kiss went even quicker in the shootout, blazing to pole position with a 2:05.528, again the only lap under 2:06. Hahn came in second-quickest, followed by Albacete, Lenz, Lacko, Faas, Kursim, Brereton Halm, and Anderson.
