Most Preliminary Report

24. August 2021The Czech Truck Prix has traditionally kicked off the second half of the season in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. Going into the round at Most, the favourites for the title would normally be manifest by now; following the Most weekend, one or other of these pilots, with his or her eye on the standings, would take a more tactical approach to the remaining races and avoid the big risks.
But 2021 has turned out to be anything but a normal year. We are almost at the end of the summer break alright, ready to resume with the fourth round (on paper) of the season. In actual fact, the 1,000+ hp machines and their drivers will be meeting up for only the second time.
After the opening round in Misano was shifted to the tail end of the calendar, the truck racers first gathered at the Hungaroring mid-June.
Rounds 2 and 3 of the ETRC were scheduled to be held over the Truck Grand Prix weekend, but had to be cancelled at the last minute because of the catastrophic flooding in the west of Germany and especially the region around the Nürburgring, which became the centre of a massive rescue and relief effort in the Eifel over the TGP weekend.
Some of the truck race teams on site pitched in wholeheartedly, reaching out to affected families with financial and manual assistance.
Now, after an interval of 11 weeks, it’s like we’re starting the season anew. Many of the teams will have used the summer intensively for tests and tweaks, so nobody knows exactly where he stands relative to the competition.
At the Hungaroring it was home hero Norbert Kiss in his MAN that topped the timesheets, but a failure to finish one race there means Sascha Lenz (GER) leads the standings into Most, followed by Buggyra Freightliner pilot Adam Lacko (CZE).
Lenz proved to be Kiss’s closest rival in Hungary, and will want to pick up where he left off. But Adam Lacko will have the tailwinds of home support, and is sure to be all fired up to fight for victories.
And don’t let’s forget Jochen Hahn - the bantam from Altensteig may have been laid low by teething troubles with his Iveco at the Hungaroring, but you can be certain that Team Hahn Racing has got every one of those out of the way.
The entry list has 17 trucks, including Lukas Hahn as race-by-race starter and Brit Luke Garrett making his European debut in Tom O’Rourke’s MAN.
