Saturday in Misano Part 3 – Reinert wins the second race

25. May 2019Misano - The dark clouds that had crept up over Misano World Circuit in between the races melted away rather rapidly. But while the truck racers had no rain to deal with, penalties came hailing down in the race – so many were handed out that it became near impossible to figure out what was going on.
Recuenco, having never started in pole before, lost his position to Reinert in the sprint to the first corner. Steffi Halm presently followed her former boss past the Spaniard and the two Ivecos started to pull away, while Recuenco was tied down defending against his pursuers. On Lap 5 he was overtaken by Lenz, Kiss, and Albacete in quick succession; one lap later by Hahn and Lacko.
But then Hahn drifted off the track, dropping out of the Top 10. He did manage to fight his way up to P6, but was then given a drive-through which he ignored, and the 30 seconds he got added to his race time knocked him into P11, out of the points.
His compatriot Lenz didn’t find the going any easier. Running strongly in third at one stage, he tried to attack the leading duo. But a brake balance problem kept pushing the MAN wide in the corners, as a result of which the young racer from Weißenthurm on the Rhine was first forced to cede position to Albacete and Lacko, and then handed a drive-through that he immediately obeyed, in contrast to Hahn. At the finish, all he could show for his efforts was P8.
Now his Löwen Power teammate Albacete was on course for a podium finish, but the Spaniard wasn’t going to content himself with P3. On the final lap he succeeded in making it past Halm, but by then there was no taking victory from Reinert.
Lacko finished fourth, ahead of Kiss, Recuenco, and Kursim. Lenz was followed home by Janes and Janiec in the two remaining points-paying places. Janiec too ended up among the penalty-hit, collecting a drive-through and then, in his eagerness to get back onto the track, five additional seconds for speeding in pit lane. At the end of a difficult day the Frenchman was glad to have picked up a point.
Recuenco took top spot in the Grammer Truck Cup for the second time in a row, ahead of Janes and MAN pilot José Eduardo Rodrigues (POR). Löwen Power (Albacete / Lenz) was the top-scoring team, followed by „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Halm) and Buggyra International Racing (Janes / Lacko).
Lacko leads the drivers’ standings with 22 points, followed by Albacete (21), Hahn (20), Halm (16), Reinert and Kiss (both 14), and Lenz (9).
