Truck racers visit SERMEC

06. March 2019The Italian family-owned company SERMEC (SErvizi Revisioni MECcaniche) has engaged in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship for a couple of years now, and is also a sponsor partner of www.truckracing.de / www.truckrace.info.
Giovanni Ricci, who runs the more than 120 years old family business together with his brothers, has had an affinity for motorsport for as long as he can remember – seeing as he grew up in the beating heart of Emilia-Romagna (where SERMEC is also situated), “Terra di Motori” as the region’s proud residents call it. The Misano World Circuit is only 60 km east as the crow flies; Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola is at a similar distance due northwest, and the home of sportscar legends Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini – a further 60 km up the road.
For all their enthusiasm for sportscars and motorsport, the focus of the SERMEC family is on vehicles of altogether different missions and dimensions – on lorries large and small, on buses, farm tractors, and industrial forklifts, on railway trains and ocean-going ships and even helicopters.
SERMEC, you see, is a specialist in the remanufacture of power steering gearboxes and pumps, manual and automated gearboxes, retarders, heavy duty axle carriers, and electronic control units, working with the biggest names in the respective businesses.
Truck racing provides the company not only an ideal environment in which to test its products to the extreme, but also any number of excellent opportunities to deepen customer relationships.
At the end of February, as part of his preparations for the new season, Giovanni hosted friends from truck racing on a tour of the SERMEC facilities. The group included Antonio Albacete, Ivan Cruz, and Justo Alvarez from Spain, Norbert Kiss and Csaba Bakó from Hungary, and Egi Bartmann, Lutz Bernau, and Silvia and Sascha Lenz from Germany, with our very own André Bartscher along to document the visit.
The visitors were awed by what they saw of the production – “… almost like a clean room” – and had detailed discussions with Giovanni of ideas for the upcoming season of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, which kicks off at Misano, SERMEC’s “home” circuit, end-May.
