Sunday in Jarama Part 3 – Reinert wins again in Jarama

07. October 2018Jarama - The final race of the season at Circuito del Jarama was bathed in late-summer sun, as indeed all the races this weekend have been. The 27,000 spectators – and the truck racers themselves – were in high spirits, and compared to the regimented order in which the earlier race was run, this one unfolded rather chaotically.
Polesitter Brereton won the sprint to the first corner against Steffi Halm, and the Iveco pilotess continued to drop away. At this stage nobody would have wagered one euro cent that she would go on to finish on the podium, and that Brereton would end up only in P9.
The Brit’s closest pursuer initially was Reinert, who in turn was chased down by a whole pack consisting of José Rodrigues, Lacko, Lenz, Halm, Hahn, Kursim, Janes, and Mercedes pilot Steffen Faas (GER). Janes and Faas were competing for the runner-up spot in the Grammer Truck Cup, which Brereton had already been declared the winner of. To cut a long story short, Faas settled the matter in his own favour before the first lap had been completed.
Out in front, Brereton was under immense pressure. The Englishman has shown on enough occasions that he can win a race he has started from pole. This time, however, he wasn’t able to hold on to his lead for more than half the race; Reinert and José Rodrigues passed their MAN colleague in one swoop.
Halm had retaken one position from Lenz before the end of Lap 1, and then proceeded to overtake Lacko a couple of laps later. When she put Brereton behind her to slot into P3, it wasn’t certain yet that Reinert, Rodrigues, and Halm would make up the podium, because Hahn, Albacete, and Kiss were advancing menacingly up the file – Kiss indeed from the end of the field, having had to start last following his failure to finish the earlier race, to P9 at this point.
But the Hungarian was held up by Lenz, the two overtaking Brereton before the Mercedes pilot could pass the MAN-in-yellow, black, and green, only to realise that he wasn’t going to get any further – now that he had Albacete, Lacko, and Hahn ahead of him.
It was all very exciting till the last lap, even if there was no further change in the order, with Reinert, José Rodrigues, and Halm on the podium, Hahn, Lacko, Albacete, Kiss, and Lenz on their tails in P4 through P8.
Brereton came home broken in P9, Anderson and Faas chasing him all the way to the line. These three pilots stood on the Grammer Truck Cup podium. Brereton finished on top in that classification, beating Faas and Janes.
The team honours went to „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Steffi Halm) for the third time this weekend, ahead of Reinert Adventure (Lenz / Reinert) and Reboconort Truck Racing (J. Rodrigues / E. Rodrigues).
The FIA cup for European Champion Team went to „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“, with Reinert Adventure and Buggyra Racing 1969 first and second runners-up.
Hahn closed out the season with 387 points. Last year’s champion Lacko has 266, followed by Albacete (249), Lenz (229), Kiss (207), Halm (205), Reinert (171), and Kursim (146).
