Saturday in Jarama Part 3 - Reinert wins Race 2

06. October 2018Jarama - If you had only seen the battered trucks after the pile-up in Race 1, you’d find it difficult to believe that three of them were back on the grid for the start of the day’s second race: the Mercedes of Kiss and the MANs of Recuenco and Anderson. The respective mechanics did a splendid job of getting the mangled machines race-ready. Providentially for them, Race 2 started only after a delay of an hour and a half, because there had been some disruptions because of an accident in a support race in between.
Brereton launched himself off pole into the lead, and Steffi lost her position alongside him to Reinert. The field soon sorted itself out into a train, nose-to-crash-guard, in pursuit of the leader. Brereton hung in there till halfway through, but then one of Reinert’s many attacks succeeded. The German took over the lead in businesslike fashion, and proceeded forthwith to pull out a gap. Over a couple of laps it grew to four seconds, an advantage he then held till the flag to collect his third win this season.
Brereton remained under pressure, primarily from Steffi Halm, but the Iveco pilotess found no opportunity to overtake and he crossed the line two tenths ahead. Halm was followed home by José Rodrigues, Lenz, Albacete, and Hahn in intervals of fractions of a second. Only two seconds separated Hahn in P7 from Brereton – it was so close. Faas came in next, ahead of Lacko and Janiec, who picked up a 10 second penalty for overspeed.
Brereton reprised his Grammer Truck Cup victory from Race 1, beating Faas and Oly Janes to the top step of this exclusive podium for Chrome-category drivers.
Reinert Adventure (Lenz / Reinert) was the top-scoring team, followed by „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Steffi Halm) and RS-Racing (Brereton / Smith).
Hahn extended his lead in the overall standings. He now has 360 points. Lacko is still in second place with 248, followed by Albacete (229), Lenz (216), Kiss (203), Halm (193), Reinert (153), and Kursim (144).
