Saturday in Zolder Part 2 - Victory for Antonio Albacete

15. September 2018Zolder - The sun may not have been smiling down on Circuit Zolder at the start of Race 1, but the weather was still great for racing and Lutz Bernau and his crew were all smiles after Albacete’s straightforward victory.
The Spaniard handily beat Hahn in the start sprint to set himself at the head of the field. Behind the MAN pilot things got crowded at the first corner, resulting in not a few contacts. Hahn, on the outside, was forced wide, almost into the gravel. Lacko took the opportunity to move ahead of the Iveco pilot – and the story of how the podium came to be composed was all told. No matter how hard Hahn tried over the 12 laps of the race, no matter how close he stuck to the Buggyra pilot, there was just no getting around the Freightliner. Albacete managed to pull away meanwhile, and the trio in the lead had soon put a respectable distance between themselves and the rest.
A peloton of sorts came next, bumper to bumper through the curves and chicanes, with Reinert initially at its head. Towards mid-race, Kiss attempted to overtake in the paddock chicane. A couple of broken penalty markers later the Hungarian lay ahead of the German, the rest continuing to follow in intervals of a second each. At the flag it was Kiss from Reinert, Lenz, Halm, Kursim, and José Rodrigues, six trucks across the line in seven seconds – yes, that close. P10 and one point went to
Brit Shane Brereton (MAN).
Kursim in P8 secured pole for the next race.
Brereton took top points in the Grammer Truck Cup, followed by countryman Oly Janes (Buggyra Freightliner) and Portuguese José Eduardo (MAN).
Truck Sport Bernau (Albacete / Recuenco) took the team honours, ahead of Buggyra Racing 1969 (Lacko / Janes) and „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Halm).
