It’s a 20-truck field for ETRC 2018

29. April 2018The two national truck racing series in Great Britain and France have registered healthy participant interest for the current season, and the spectacular opening round of the Dutch series this last weekend in Zandvoort had 15 trucks at the start.
In keeping with the trend, the FIA European Truck Racing Championship’s promoter ETRA has announced a field of 20 pilots for the premier league of European truck racing. Last year, by contrast, there were only 13 entries.
The 2018 campaigners come from seven countries; one each from the Netherlands and Hungary, two each from the Czech Republic, Spain, and Portugal, and six from Germany and Great Britain apiece.
With 12 trucks, MAN remains the leading marque by a long way. Three Ivecos, two Freightliners and two Mercedes-Benz, and one Scania make up the rest.
The large contingent of British drivers is surprising, considering that they have traditionally taken part only occasionally in races on the Continent.
But there have been changes on the British Isles that may have prompted them to orientate themselves towards the international series. Moreover, the fact that two “jokers”, or absences without penalties, are permissible has made full-season participation very attractive for teams that had originally planned to go it race by race, by lowering the threshold of commitment to six races out of eight.
There are seven driver pairings for the team championship, the highest number hitherto.
The detailed entry list has been put up on www.truckracing.de / www.truckrace.info – click on the “Drivers 2018” option in the menu.
That the two drivers at the bottom of the list both have the number 100 against their names is no oversight – the FIA hasn’t assigned them their competition numbers yet, so we’ve used 100 as a placeholder till we receive that information.
