Sunday in Misano Part 2 – Lacko wins the first race on Sunday

28. May 2017Misano - The sun blazed resplendent in its fiery glory and, with no clouds to ameliorate the harsh heat of its radiance the track was now shimmering at a surface temperature of above 60°C. The action above it wasn’t quite as heated; the positions were settled early on in the race.
Polesitter Lacko beat Hahn to the first corner. As the trucks exited the Variante del Parco onto the short straight, Kiss was already up alongside and to the right of Hahn’s Iveco. The Hungarian had the clear inside line into the Rio, the quick sequence of 90° right-hand bends, and was then clear ahead of the German. Lacko meanwhile was quick to build a buffer to the rest of the pack and from then on had a clean escape to victory, his second of the weekend.
Kiss too pulled away steadily from the trio of Hahn, Albacete, and Halm. Not long after, as the defending champ drifted a wee bit wide on the Curvone (11), Albacete and Halm were into the gap and out ahead in a flash.
But it would get even worse for the German. A smoking truck forced him to duck into the pits for a rapid reset of the engine controller, and then back out again in double-quick time – albeit out of the points.
At the front the positions were settled, the top two podium places effectively decided, and Albacete keeping Halm in check so there was little she could do but come to terms with 4th place.
The contest for 5th was stiff. All throughout it looked like Lenz was better-placed, but just within striking distance Körber, using every one of his 30 years of truck racing experience, finally broke the young MAN’s determined resistance. But there was a swift reckoning for the Iveco pilot – he was given a 10 second penalty for overspeeding that tossed him back to 6th behind Lenz.
Unperturbed in the slightest by the scrap ahead of him, Robineau crossed the line in 7th. Hahn meanwhile had fought his way back up to 8th after that enforced pit stop, strategically securing pole position for the final race. Slovenian Buggyra pilot Enes Draganovic and Eduardo Rodrigues were the two remaining finishers in the points, and followed Robineau onto the Promoter’s Cup podium.
Buggyra (Draganovic / Lacko) was the top team, followed by Reinert Adventure (Halm / Lenz) and tankpool24 (Kiss / Kursim).
