Sunday at the Hungaroring Part 2 – Hahn takes 20, twice

28. August 2016Hungaroring - The sun continued to blaze brutally in a cloudless sky. No problem for the truck racers and fans. Anything but rain!
The fact is, everybody on the grid was quite cool with the temperature – way above 30°C – and the simmering (53°) track surface.
The start of Sunday’s first race was unspectacular, calm and decorous. Hahn helped himself to the lead, and when polesitter Kiss didn’t respond with an immediate counterattack, it looked to us like the race was decided already. Unless, of course, Hahn should make a mistake.
A few laps later the trio of Hahn, Kiss, and Lacko, all evenly matched a second apart, had pulled out a gap on the rest of the field. So, yes, the podium was settled early on.
The real action was further down. But that too was restrained by truck racing standards.
The fight for fourth place between Janiec and Halm was ... close, causing the two – at least according to race control – to exceed track limits on a few occasions. Halm had to give up on the penultimate lap on account of an issue with her truck’s steering, but Janiec was awarded a 30 second penalty after the finish. That handed his fourth place to Körber.
Lohr was fifth, ahead of Lenz, Smith, and Forman, who with his 8th-place finish secured pole for the final race of the weekend.
He was followed in the points by Janiec and then Dutchman Erwin Kleinnagelvoort (Scania), who collected the final point to be had.
Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) was once again the winning team, ahead of tankpool24 (Kiss / Kursim) and Buggyra International (Lacko / Forman).
