Truck-GP 2017 will run from 30 June through 2 July

29. July 2016The truck racing community has sunk into a state of deep summer hibernation, you can imagine. It’s only very rarely that the FIA European Truck Racing Championship experiences such a long – and welcome – interval between the TGP, the climax of the season, and the following race.
The last time this happened was in 2005, but then the TGP was in its regular slot.
Last year the interval was actually a week longer. The event had been advanced to June from the dates decided by the Truck Racing Commission and endorsed by the World Motor Sport Council. Why? Because it turned out that Formula 1 had belatedly block-booked the Nürburgring for the entire month of July - only for motorsport’s elite class to drop its round at the Ring altogether.
This year too ADAC Mittelrhein, the organiser of the Truck Grand Prix, brought the TGP forward a week from its traditional slot, the second weekend in July. This time to avoid a clash of dates with the final of football’s Euro 2016 Championship.
For next year ADAC Mittelrhein has once again picked the first July weekend, possibly to avoid any quarrel with Bernie Ecclestone. The Nürburgring is slated to return to the F1 calendar as the venue for the 2017 German Grand Prix.
