Sunday in Nogaro Part 3 – Lacko takes the final race

12. June 2016Nogaro - For the second time Rodrigues missed an opportunity to capitalise on his pole position. And then he collected the quicker-accelerating MANs of Lohr and Reinert, which meant the race was pretty much over for all three.
Rodrigues and Lohr dropped way down the field, Reinert limped slowly bank to the pits, his fight finished on the first lap itself.
Janiec had now taken over the lead, followed closely by Lenz, Halm, Lacko, and Hahn.
While Lenz was being swarmed by his pursuers, Janiec was able to put some distance between himself and the rest, to the delight of more than 40,000 spectators.
Again and again Halm, who was leading a trio on Lenz’s tail, attempted to overtake, particularly at the end of the long back straight, but the MAN pilot managed to slam the door shut each time.
Somewhere towards the middle of the race Steffi Halm tried it once again on this same stretch, this time on the outside. That allowed Lacko to sneak in alongside and overtake both her and Lenz, with Hahn in tow.
Lenz appeared to have been taken aback and put up no resistance when Halm too finally got past him.
In no time the trio had shaken themselves free of the young German and were now tearing off in pursuit of Janiec. Lacko and Hahn in particular were setting a blistering pace.
Three laps before the flag the two championship leaders had not only reeled Janiec in but also, to loud and regretful “Oh!s” from the French fans, put him behind them.
Janiec meanwhile appeared to have saved all his legendary obduracy for Steffi Halm, the Lion pilot taking the flag three-tenths ahead of the young German. But then he was immediately in for a nasty surprise - a 30s elapsed-time penalty in lieu of a drive-through he had ignored. That dropped him down the order to 9th.
So Steffi Halm captured the third podium place ahead of Lenz, Forman, Lohr, Kleinnagelvoort, Rodrigues, and Janiec.
Long after the prizegiving ceremony, the finishing order was completely reshuffled.
Not only was Janiec awarded the 30s penalty; the gavel also fell on Halm, Lenz, Lohr, Rodrigues, and even Reinert, who hadn’t even completed one lap.
And so, behind Lacko and Hahn were now Forman in 3rd place ahead of Kleinnagelvoort, Janiec, Halm, Lenz, Lohr, and Rodrigues.
At the prizegiving for the teams it was Buggyra International (Lacko / Forman) on the top step of the podium, with WOW! Women On Wheels (Lohr / Halm) and Lion Truck Racing-Lenz (Janiec / Lenz) in second and third.
Lacko maintains his lead at the top of the standing with 146 points ahead of Hahn (144), Reinert (91), Janiec (76), Kiss (61), and Halm (54).
