Saturday in Misano Part 3 – Lacko lays down the law, again

28. May 2016Misano - Polesitter Kiss couldn’t really capitalise on his starting position in Saturday’s second race on the Misano World Circuit. Robineau, starting alongside, snatched the lead even before the first corner, and then even Janiec swept ahead of the reigning champ in his tankpool24 pilot. Kiss soon found a clutch of (nominally) much quicker competitors right on his tail.
But Robineau quickly ran out of steam and fell back at a surprisingly rapid pace. The order at the end of the first lap was Janiec ahead of Kiss, Hahn, and Lacko.
Hahn and Lacko then passed Kiss, the Czech wasting no time in the bargain overtaking the German MAN pilot. Together the two championship favourites set off in pursuit of Janiec.
Two laps later the mission was accomplished; first Lacko overcame the yellow Lion MAN, followed a little later by Hahn. Reinert’s attempt to draft past Janiec in Hahn’s wake resulted in a catastrophic coming-together that left his blue MAN standing with a flat front tyre, although Janiec simply kept going.
A little later Steffi Halm, who’d fought her way through the field, avenged her team boss Reinert by briefly grabbing 3rd place – behind Lacko and Hahn – from Janiec. Towards the end of the race Janiec was hard put to hold onto 4th, Kiss having inexorably caught up. At times the Hungarian Mercedes pilot came dangerously close to overtaking. But at the flag Janiec managed to stay a bare seven-tenths ahead.
Equally razor’s-edge was the duel between Körber and Robineau for 6th place, the German Iveco pilot winning that one at the flag.
Sascha Lenz (GER), his German MAN colleague Ellen Lohr, and Buggyra pilot Forman followed at some remove in 8th, 9th, and 10th.
The team honours once again went to Buggyra International (Lacko / Forman) ahead of the level-on-points WOW! Women On Wheels (Lohr / Halm) and Lion Truckracing-Lenz (Janiec / Lenz).
An hour and a half after the finish a revised results list was published. Janiec had been given a 30s penalty for having ignored a drive-through in connection with that collision with Reinert. The final classification now looked completely different. The Frenchman dropped to 11th and out of the points. Kiss was now 4th, and all the others behind him moved up a place. The last point went to Czech Frankie Vojtíšek (MAN).
