Sunday in Jarama Part 2 – Kiss thrives on rivals’ uncertainty

04. October 2015Jarama - The drivers’ lap around the circuit in the open-top bus took a while. As soon as it was over, many of the racers weren’t smiling anymore. The weather was neither good nor bad, and there was no telling what set-up or strategy would pay off.
This was no concern, apparently, for polesitter Kiss, who shot into the lead in what initially looked like another one-horse race, the kind we’ve seen so many of this season. But Albacete is well aware of what he owes his unswervingly loyal fans. The Spaniard, moreover, wasn’t going to be held back by awe of the newly instated champion and attacked Kiss with gusto, particularly in the closing laps.
It’s one thing to catch up, quite another to overtake - and Albacete soon had no choice but to acquiesce to the axiom, even if Kiss at the finish had had only a two-tenths advantage.
Lacko was third all the way home, trailed by teammate Vršecký, who had been able to subdue Reinert. Immediately after that setback the Lusatian also let Janiec, Hahn, and Halm pass him, his consolation being pole position for the final race of the weekend.
Shortly before the finish Halm moved ahead of fellow Swabian Hahn when he drifted wide in his MAN in an extended left-hand curve. The rapidly rising racegirl followed Janiec across the finish line with a four-tenths advantage over thrice-champion Hahn.
The two final places in the points went to the two Germans Ellen Lohr and Sascha Lenz.
Oxxo-Lion (Kiss / Janiec) was the winning team, with Buggyra (Vršecký / Lacko) second and Bernau-Albacete (Lohr / Albacete) third.
