Sunday in Most Part 2 – Victory for Jochen Hahn

30. August 2015Most - If you were lying on the beach you’d certainly be raving about the weather, but for a sporting event this was way too warm. The temperature was quite a bit above 30°C in the shade; the track surface along the pit straight was measured at 50° and the terrace atop the press centre at 58°.
The cabs of the race trucks must have been like ovens, the machines having had to stand in the sun for a good quarter of an hour during the grid walk, probably the most popular item on the programme.
The racers kept their cool, however, and Hahn better than them all.
The MAN pilot shot straight into the lead and that’s where he stayed till the flag fell. Kiss and Albacete slotted in behind him in their starting order. The trio stretched out a gap over the rest of the field, and the podium was thus decided early on.
Lacko and Vršecký had gotten in each other’s way and quickly lost sight of the leaders. Lacko was overtaken by Reinert and Körber, who proceeded forthwith to beset Vršecký. A few laps before the finish the Czech locked up in the hairpin at the far end of the circuit and skidded wide, allowing the two Germans to make their move.
Reinert eventually finished fourth and Körber fifth.
On the final lap Lacko let Lohr pass him to finish seventh, but he now has pole for the final race.
Summerfield and Janiec were ninth and 10th. The Englishman hasn’t taken part in the first five rounds, and so is not eligible for points. As a result, Janiec was awarded his two points and 11th-placed Rehfeld the final point.
But the race wasn’t really as uneventful as described so far.
There had been heavy collisions in midfield at the start, as a consequence of which the MAN of Vojtíšek spun, collecting the trucks of Halm and Rehfeld.
While the young German fell to the end of the field in her badly battered truck, Rehfeld resumed the chase immediately, unmindful of his shattered windscreen and an umbilicated front panel.
Steffi Halm set off in furious pursuit, driving one of the quickest laps in the race, a 2:04.692s that was right up there with the leaders’ times. But the gap was simply too large. And then the MAN pilotess collided with Anthony Janiec in the penultimate lap, which set her back a second time. At the end the best she could manage was 12th, ahead of Lenz and Kleinnagelvoort.
André Kursim’s race was over almost as soon as it had begun. He’d been laid low by engine failure on Friday in the warm-up for the press rides, and now his Mercedes engine lasted all of three laps before the bitterly disappointed youngster was forced to pit and call it quits.
Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) was the top team, with Oxxo-Lion (Kiss / Janiec) second-best and Truck Sport Bernau-Albacete (Albacete / Lohr) third.
