Saturday in Most Part 2 Consummate victory for Kiss

29. August 2015Most - The clouds broke up right on the dot as the trucks lined up in formation on the grid for the first race of the 6th round of the FIA ETRC, bathing the circuit in sunshine. It wasn’t all sunshine for everybody, though - but more on that later.
First off was the grid walk, an opportunity to saunter past the lined-up race trucks that the fans made full use of. There was of course the obligatory group photograph of the racers, following which they happily posed for, and with, any number of selfie-seeking fans.
The sun was positively ablaze by the time everyone had finally climbed back into his or her truck for the start. But polesitter Kiss was cool as a cucumber. The Hungarian slotted straightway into the lead, which he stretched to about 5 seconds at the chequered flag. The battle for the two remaining steps on the podium was a close triangular contest, Hahn finally finishing second and Lacko third, leaving Albacete out in the cold.
For a long while it looked like Vršecký was certain to finish fifth, even though he was continually harried by Reinert and – later – Körber. The Czech eventually let not only Körber and Reinert but also Halm overtake. A bleeding rear tyre on his Buggyra Freightliner dropped him to 8th at the finish, which meant pole position for the second race.
Vojtíšek and Lohr finished 9th and 10th.
At the flag you could see even Hahn’s truck with a rear tyre that had lost pressure - steadily from the second lap, as it turned out, when the rim suffered an impact. So much happier the bantam from Altensteig appeared for his second place!
The tankpool24 team had very little to be happy about. The engine in André Kursim’s (GER) Mercedes-Benz had packed up in the very initial laps during the press rides, and it took the MB Motorsport mechanics till the wee hours to replace it.
Then the new engine had a problem in today’s warm-up, which they thought they’d quickly tackled. But when it was time for qualifying, the truck wasn’t fully ready yet.
Now participation in qualifying is mandatory, even if at times in the past race control has looked the other way when the rest of the teams had no objection. This time there was no reprieve and Kursim was barred from the start.
