Sunday in Nogaro Part 3 – Home hero Janiec wins dramatic finale

21. June 2015Nogaro - It was one of those rare races that the 39,000 fans will remember for a long time to come, and not just because the winner was a Frenchman. The mercury was pushing 30°C, the asphalt had settled at 58°, and the action on track was as heated as it gets.
Polesitter Janiec was able to beat Steffi Halm into the first corner. The young German’s truck was rammed in the rear by Vršecký right at the start, but that didn’t faze her in the least; Halm recovered immediately, but by then teammate Reinert had managed to pass. Kiss capitalised on the chaos to overtake both Lacko and Albacete, and was now right up behind Vršecký. There were more collisions meanwhile, and the track marshals were barely able to keep up collecting all the plastic bits that were flying around. There were quite a few yellow-flag phases. And, indeed, in some parts race control called double-yellow caution.
Amidst all this, everyone held his or her own - till Vršecký and Kiss collided. The Czech was pushed down to the end of the field, from where he eventually fought his way up to ninth ahead of Dutchman Erwin Kleinnagelvoort and behind Ellen Lohr.
The septet at the spearhead raced on relentlessly, crossing the line just 3 seconds apart.
Hahn meanwhile had overtaken Steffi Halm, who now had defending champ Kiss on her heels. But try as he might, feinting left or right, the Hungarian could find just no way past.
Steffi, of course, was driving the race of her life, even if all it counted for at the end was fourth place. Hahn was able to overtake Reinert on the inside of the final bend and collected 15 points for his second place.
Albacete crossed the line in sixth behind Kiss. Lacko was seventh, ahead of Lohr, Vršecký, and Kleinnagelvoort.
Oxxo-Lion (Kiss / Janiec) was the top team for the second time today ahead of Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) and Bernau-Albacete (Lohr / Albacete).
Kiss continues to lead the championship standings with 261 points, ahead of Lacko (204), Hahn (195), Albacete (150), Vršecký (149), and Reinert (93).
