Sunday in Nogaro Part 1 – Kiss cops pole

21. June 2015Nogaro - The truck racers continue to be spoilt for sunny weather even on this second race day of the fourth round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship in Nogaro in the south of France. And you bet they made the most of it in the early morning warm-up. The Czech Adam Lacko (Buggyra Freightliner) drove the quickest lap in 1:52.560s, und even MAN of the moment Norbert Kiss (HUN) recorded a time under 1:53s.
In qualifying Lacko showed right off that his performance in the warm-up was no fluke, setting the fastest time once again. The top drivers all did only one flying lap, as is their wont. With track temperatures like these, conserving tyres is now more important than ever.
The Czech was joined by Kiss, the two MAN ex-champions Antonio Albacete (ESP) and Jochen Hahn (GER), David Vršecký (CZE) in a Buggyra Freightliner, and another MAN phalanx with Steffi Halm and René Reinert (both GER), Anthony Janiec (FRA), Ellen Lohr (GER), and Ryan Smith (GBR) in the top 10 for the SuperPole.
There was no holding Kiss back in the shootout. His time of 1:52.246s was simply untouchable, and put him comfortably in pole position for Sunday’s first race. Lacko, Hahn, and Albacete weren’t too far off, though, all managing times within 1:53s. Vršecký and Reinert secured the third row on the grid, followed by Halm, Lohr, Janiec, and Smith.
