Friday in Nogaro

19. June 2015Nogaro - After a week of gorgeous weather in the Gascony, the morning of the first day of the fourth round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship broke to a fine drizzle. Truck racing on Circuit Paul Armagnac in Nogaro is always a three-day event, beginning with the taxi rides for the VIPs and press at forenoon Friday. When it was time for the one-hour supplementary practice session mandated under the regulations, and for the two free practice sessions thereafter, the weather had recovered its Occitànian flair — scattered clouds and a temperature around 25°C.
Hungarian defending champ Norbert Kiss, who’s set the pace in all three rounds so far, was the frontrunner yet again. The MAN pilot set a time of 1:52.778s in the one-hour practice which nobody – he neither – could better. Not one driver was able to improve his or her time in either of the 20-minute free practice sessions, and Kiss was always on top, most closely trailed by MAN fellows Jochen Hahn (GER) and Antonio Albacete (ESP), and at some remove the two Czech Buggyra-Freightliner pilots David Vršecký and Adam Lacko - the quintet that has dominated the podium in every race of 2015.
German René Reinert (MAN) appears more determined than ever to ascend the podium in Nogaro. Nobody practised as diligently as he. The Lusatian fleetowner did 23 laps non-stop in the one-hour session - almost two complete race distances.
Before the seriousness of qualifying and the SuperPole tomorrow the truck racers can look forward to a bit of fun later today. At 7 pm they and their counterparts from the French championship will get ready for their big parade through this tiny town.
