Final preparations in Most

14. April 2015Four truck racers from the top group took their machines to Most in the Czech Republic for what looks like their final test before the 2015 season of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship kicks off on the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia. The Buggyra Freightliners of Czech pilots David Vršecký and Adam Lacko, and the two MANs of Germans Jochen Hahn and René Reinert, had the 4,212m of asphalt all to themselves for two full days, and they made full use of every minute. No sooner did the trucks return to the paddock or the pit lane for some new bit to be installed or for fuel or water than they were off again.
In actual fact, many of the teams are delayed in their preparations and have much ground yet to make up.
And so the test in Most wasn’t about presenting the race trucks in pristine glory but about making the most effective use of this last-gasp shakedown op. In many instances chassis parts that weren’t absolutely necessary were simply left off, just to save the time it would take to mount and demount them.
The Buggyra team combined its testing with a charitable action involving children with disabilities, who were driven around the track in the co-pilot’s seat that would otherwise be used by the race engineers.
Lutz Bernau and Antonio Albacete will stop at Madrid on their way to Valencia to test at the Circuit del Jarama. Everyone else is hoping to bond with their trucks a bit better over the taxi rides for the press and the one-hour free practice on the Friday at Valencia, before they enter the fury of battle exactly at 12 pm on 25 April in the first qualifying session of the new season.
