Saturday in Jarama Part 2 – Kiss wins first race

04. October 2014Jarama - By the time the first race was started it was now 25° in the shade, fine summer weather. It looked at times like the truck racers were on a school excursion - after a few perfunctory scrapes in the first lap, they settled almost contritely into a procession, in the exact order in which they’d started. At times two trucks came up close, at times they touched, but collisions of the kind that make this sport so exciting to watch were studiously avoided. And so Kiss cruised to victory unchallenged, ahead of Hahn and Albacete. Lacko trailed the top three home as best of the rest, followed by Vršecký, Bösiger, Reinert, and Janiec in eighth, which meant the Frenchman gets to start on pole for the day’s second race. Somewhere towards the middle of the race Major had to drop out with problems on his truck, promoting Vojtíšek a place and the Portuguese José Rodrigues (Renault) into the points.
The spectacle was once again left to some of the participants in the Spanish championship to deliver, more specifically the Vila brothers. In almost every corner they put on delightful displays of the art of drifting, never mind that they’d been lapped several times over.
OXXO (Kiss / Major) was the top team in the race, ahead of Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) and Truck Sport Lutz Bernau (Albacete / Bösiger).
