Friday in Most

29. August 2014Most - After two clear summer days with temperatures at 25°C, the skies over Autodrom Most were clouded over for the most part today, and an abrupt shower would have been no surprise. But the threat of wet weather and a slippery track was like water off a duck’s back for the truck racers in practice for this, the 6th round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. Hungarian Norbert Kiss once again underlined his title ambitions with the top time in the first session. Neither of his two fiercest rivals for the championship, MAN colleagues Antonio Albacete (ESP) and Jochen Hahn (GER), was able to keep up even halfway.
In the second free practice too Kiss appeared to be in another orbit altogether, an emphatic half-second up on Hahn and more than six-tenths on Albacete — or was it perhaps that he was the only one really giving it all he had?
In any case the field was quite spread out, the 10th-placed drive more than 2½ seconds behind the leader. What we couldn’t fathom, though, was why all teams didn’t take part in the free practice. We’d expect those that hadn’t had the chance to test in the summer break to make use of every opportunity they got, considering that this time there were going to be no taxi rides for the press and the one-hour additional practice session this entails.
The forecast now isn’t all summery, with rain predicted for Sunday morning. Even so, many fans from Germany are sure to make the trip to Most — after all, there are six German drivers in the fray.
