Sunday at the Red Bull Ring Part 2 - Hahn wins first race

06. July 2014Spielberg - By now there were only small puffs of cloud to be seen in a brilliant blue sky. The air had warmed up to 25° in the shade, and the asphalt had reached 53°. Polesitter Hahn decided the outcome of Sunday’s first race in his favour right at the start, leaving Kiss scrambling in his wake. Albacete too was able to overtake the Hungarian before the first corner. These three led the field throughout, separated by a second each for all 20 laps. Except for a mistake or technical failure, it was clear that they would finish in this order. In the event their trucks held up, and none made any mistake.
Following at some distance, Bösiger drove a solitary race to finish fourth, and it was only towards the end that the two Buggyra pilots Vršecký and Lacko were able to close in somewhat. Major meanwhile was lapping the Red Bull Ring rather leisurely in seventh. Rodrigues, in eighth for several laps, was harried by Reinert, who finally overtook him at around a third of the race distance.
Shortly thereafter began a spate of drive-through penalties, which also hit Rodrigues, dropping him way down, out of the points. Gerd Körber (Iveco) and Steffi Halm (MAN), both from Germany, finished ninth and 10th. The wave of penalties affected only trucks in the second half of the field, and so had no effect on the points. André Kursim (GER), 11th in his Mercedes, missed out on his first point by a hair’s breadth.
Truck Sport Bernau (Albacete / Bösiger) emerged the top team, ahead of Team Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) and OXXO Racing (Kiss / Major).
