Sunday in Nogaro Part 3 - First win for Markus Bösiger

22. June 2014Nogaro - The sky was now lowering and it looked like it would start to rain at any moment. But the truck racers and the 36,000-odd spectators were spared a shower — till after the prizegiving ceremony. At 26° the atmosphere was muggy, but the track surface had cooled to around 38°. Bösiger overcame both his MAN colleagues Reinert and Major at the first bend, shooting out into the lead from third on the grid. Then Kiss overtook his teammate and went for Reinert. Attempting to shake himself free of the Hungarian clinging tenaciously to his rear bumper lost Reinert a fair bit of time, allowing Bösiger to comfortably extend his lead to 10 seconds at the finish — an eternity in truck racing.
The battle between Reinert and Kiss defined the rest of the race. Time and again the German successfully fended off the Hungarian’s assaults, but two laps from the finish Kiss capitalised on the slightest opening that Reinert had left at the entry to the first curve, pulling past the MAN in blue relatively easily.
Behind these three, battles raged for the rest of the places right till the finish. Major resolutely defended his fourth place against a pushy Hahn, crossing the line 0.3s ahead of the defending champ, who in turn was the barest seven-hundredths ahead of Lacko — whose teammate Vršecký had planted himself at his rear.
The Czech, meanwhile, had to drive most of his race with one eye on his rear-view mirror lest Albacete spring a nasty surprise. In eighth place the Spaniard, for his part, was in danger of losing his lead in the overall standings. Halm and Vojtíšek were the last two finishers in the points.
OXXO Racing (Kiss / Major) was the top-scoring team, ahead of Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) and Truck Sport Bernau (Albacete / Bösiger).
Albacete now leads the standings with 129 points, but only by virtue of having won more races than Kiss, with whom he is equal on points. They are followed by Hahn (116), Lacko (94), Bösiger (89), and Vršecký (82).
