India to host its first truck race

19. March 2014The first truck race on the Indian subcontinent is scheduled to take place this coming weekend with the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship, a demonstration event at the Formula 1 circuit in Greater Noida near New Delhi. There will be six teams and 12 Tata Prima 4038.S race trucks in the fray — all piloted by drivers from the English BTRA championship, some of them with ample experience in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship too.
The field, led by 2004 European champion Stuart Oliver, includes Mat Summerfield, David Jenkins, Graham and Steven Powell, Richard Collett, Brian Burt, Steve Thomas, Ben Horne, Paul McCumisky, Dave Ball, Oly Janes, Simon Reid, and Steve Rothery.
The nominal power level of the Tata Prima 4038.S race trucks, given as 370 PS, certainly cannot compare to the performance of the trucks in the FIA ETRC, which is on average between 1,100 PS and 1,200 PS. But if you’ve seen the English pilots in action in races for their national championship, you’d know the magnificent duels they deliver in trucks that are nowhere as potent. And so India’s first ever truck race promises to be a spectacular event.
Our colleague Eliot Lobo will be at the race and report from Greater Noida.
