Saturday in Jarama Part 2 - And the Winner is... Antonio Albacete
05. October 2013Jarama - It certainly didn’t look like it was going to be a walkover for local hero Albacete. The Spaniard was starting only in third, and ahead of him was not only his teammate Oestreich but also Kiss, another formidable opponent. But Albacete made an extremely good start, shooting out alongside the two trucks ahead of him. The three thundered towards the first corner almost abreast, but the Spaniard had the advantageous inside line. Oese and Kiss were forced towards the outside of the track while Albacete forged ahead, Hahn virtually coupled to his rear bumper. The two title contenders were now out in the lead. In the famous Le Mans and Farina corners, the most spectacular combination in the FIA ETRC, the Cepsa pilot and Hahn were already some distance ahead, and they stayed ahead till the finish. Behind them, Kiss followed Oestreich to the flag. Reinert, who was also among the leaders, unfortunately had to drop out with damage to his truck’s steering.
The two MKR Renault drivers Lacko and Bösiger did each other no harm and crossed the line in brotherly unity a mere second apart, in fifth and sixth. Spanish race-by-race pilot Javier Mariezcurrena drove his way up to seventh, ahead of Mäkinen and the two MAN pilots Benedek Major (HUN) and Frankie Vojtíšek (CZE).
