Saturday in Zolder Part 3 - Victory for Hahn in Race 2

21. September 2013Zolder - After all the shock of the afternoon’s events, the day’s second race started an hour late. Reinert was in pole, ahead of Janiec. Once again, the start took place in single file; only at the end of the pit straight was overtaking permitted. Reinert not only defended his lead quite comfortably but also managed to pull out a gap on Janiec, while the Frenchman had to fend off the attacks of his pursuers. But he was able to really hold out for only one lap before Hahn pulled past. Two laps later the German champ had also reeled Reinert in and from there on drove to an uncontested victory. Janiec meanwhile had his hands – and mirrors – full with the rest of the pursuers, and after even Kiss and Oestreich were past him, the Frenchman was gradually relegated to the rear of the field. The first attacker he gave in to was Vršecký, the Czech having driven a superb race till then. Having had to drop out of the first race on account of an engine problem, he could only start the second from the rear of the field but still managed a creditable fifth place ahead of Albacete. But Anthony Janiec’s ordeal wasn’t over yet; valiantly defending his position, he unfortunately collected a drive-through penalty. As a result, any chance of even one point was snatched away from him by Mäkinen, Vojtíšek, Robineau, and Blaise. At the end, all he had to show for his efforts was 11th place, the best of the rest.
Albacete has extended his advantage in the overall standings and now stands at 323 points, followed by Hahn (309), Oestreich (252), Vršecký (215), Kiss 210, Lacko (170), and Bösiger (133). Castrol Team Hahn Racing (Hahn / Mäkinen) was the top team in the second race, followed by Truck Sport Lutz Bernau (Albacete / Oestreich) and OXXO Energy Truck Race Team (Kiss / Major).
