Saturday in Most – Part 2

01. September 2012Most - The first race on Saturday turned out to be not successful for the French Renault driver Anthony Janiec. After one lap he pulled into the pit lane during the timed practice and already left the starting grid before the formation lap even took place. Apparently the race truck was not working properly.
All the other drivers were satisfied. The only one that was not happy was Adam Lacko. Right from the start Albacete took the lead and was followed by Oestreich, Hahn, Lacko and Bösiger. Before they passed the finish line, Hahn had been able to pass Oese and able to place 2nd. From the start there was smoke coming out of Lackos truck and it also smelled like rubber. The Czech was able to manage another 6 laps, but then he had to quit. At the same time, Hahn constantly tried to attack Albacete, but the Spaniard defended his position very well and was able to achieve a start-finish victory. The Cepsa team cheered him on. Oestreich placed 3rd. In the fifth lap Vrsecky had been able to make it to place number 4 and Bösiger, therefore, had to be satisfied with place number 5. Lacheze placed 6th ahead of Körber and Mäkinen. Until 2 laps before the finish line Reinert had been on place number 9, but then Kiss passed his colleague from MAN and made Reinert place 10th. At the beginning he had to let the German pass him. Kiss’ teammate Frankie Voijtisek was not very lucky. After only 2 laps the Czech had to park his MAN.
Ellen Lohr was almost in the same miserable situation. During the timed practice the German driver had trouble with her speed limiter in her tankpool24-Mercedes and all her times were not assessed. In the end she only placed 16th.
Mäkinen’s 8th placed in the first race meant that he would receive the pole position for the following race, because the first eight drivers start in reverse order. Therefore, Albacete as the winner of the race 1 started from the 8th place into the race.
Unfortunately the pole position did not bring the Fin a lot of luck. It seemed like the black MAN was too fast and started spinning in the first chicane. The truck spun around and other trucks bumped into each other, some even completely came to a halt. Afterwards the whole order was completely mixed up: Lacheze was now leading, ahead of Körber, Vrsecky, Albacete and the MAN driver Jeremy Robineau (FRA). Mäkinen placed last and Hahn was right ahead of him. The German tried to catch up, having Lacko right behind him, who was forced to start into the race from the very back, because of his failure. After around one third of the race, Bösiger and Oestreich crashed into each other in the 180° curve at the very end of the Autodrom in Most. Afterwards, both trucks were facing the traffic that was coming toward them. Some drivers were apparently not impressed by the yellow flags that were being waved by the Marshalls, because some of them did not even slow down. Everyone was really lucky that this did not turn into a multiple pile-up. Bösiger and Oese started back into the race, but the Swiss directly pulled over into the pit. Oestreich kept going and placed 13th. However, he was disqualified due to overspeeding several times.
In the front, Lacheze was no longer able to defend his position against Vrsecky and one lap later Albacete also passed the Frenchman. Two laps before the finish of the race, the Spaniard managed to pass Vrsecky and won the second race of the day. The places on the podium were therefore all taken. Körber placed 4th and was followed by Hahn, who had been fighting his way to the front. Janiec placed 6th ahead of Lacko, Reinert and Kiss. Michal Matejovsky (CZE), who drove the second Buggyra-Freightliner as a guest driver placed 10th, which is normally the last rank to score a point. Due to the fact that the Czech cannot gather anymore points, the last point went to Robineau (11th).
Almost one hour later there was a different result: Körber received a 20-second penalty due to overspeeding, which made him place 7th instead of 4th, but Hahn, Janiec and Lacko moved one place up. In the overall ranking Albacete is now again leading with 355 points, followed by Hahn (353), Lacko (220), Oestreich (216), Vrsecky (208) and Bösiger (173). Concerning the first race, Blaise/Bouzige Truck Racing won the team ranking ahead of MKR-Technology and Pneu Bösiger-Team 14. In the second race the two that placed 1st switched places.
