Saturday in Most – part 1

01. September 2012Most - Even though the sky was mostly cloudy, it was almost like a summer day in Most compared to the rain day yesterday at the 8th race weekend of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. At least it did not rain. The free practice had already taken place yesterday and therefore the day started with a warm-up session. The Frenchman Jean-Christophe Quiret and his Foden from Michel Bassanelli experienced a bad surprise: Already in the first lap the turbo bursted and the leaking oil caught on fire.
The warm-up session was just the start and one and a half hours later it became serious for the drivers in the 1st timed practice. After only 2 laps the best drivers already turned into the pit lane, because they were convinced to be under the top ten in the SuperPole. The two MAN drivers, René Reinert (GER) and Norbert Kiss (HUN), fought over the 10th place until the last second, but in the end the Hungarian was a little bit better. The German Jochen Hahn (MAN) was having the lead ahead of his biggest rival, Antonio Albacete (MAN). Markus Oestreich (GER) in his Renault followed ahead of the Czech David Vrsecky (Buggyra-Freightliner) and both of the MKR-Renault drivers Adam Lacko (CZE) and Markus Bösiger (SUI). The Frenchman Dominique Lacheze placed 7th ahead of the Fin Mika Mäkinen (also MAN). The Iveco driver, Gerd Körber (GER), was able to place 9th ahead of Kiss. For the SuperPole, that in the end will be crucial, Albacete managed to win the pole-position. In the last minute, Oestreich was able to push Hahn out of the first row and make him place 3rd. The following ranks went to the two MKR drivers Lacko and Bösiger, who are ahead of Vrsecky, Lacheze, Mäkinen, Körber and Kiss.
