Sunday in Nogaro – part 1

24. June 2012Nogaro - In the morning, a clear sky gave reason to assume that this was going to be a hot day. During the warm-up session in the morning, Antonio Albacete was the only one to drive 1:53 min. and he was one and a half seconds faster than his immediate rivals. During the timed practice, the Renault driver Markus Bösiger (SUI) drove the best time (1:53.156), closely followed by the German Jochen Hahn (MAN), Albacete and the Czech David Vrsecky (Buggyra Freightliner).
These four were only three-tenths apart from each other. Among the top ten for the SuperPole were also the Frenchman Dominique Lacheze (MAN), Adam Lacko (CZE) and Markus Oestreich (GER, both Renault), Mika Mäkinen (FIN) and Norbert Kiss (HUN, both MAN) as well as the Frenchman Anthony Janiec (Renault). The drivers in the top ten, however, don’t have to show their cards until the SuperPole.
That was when nearly all drivers made their best time in the first lap. In the end Albacete drove 1:52.599 min. and won the Pole position for the first race on Sunday. Hahn was lacking one more tenth. The MKR-Renault drivers Bösiger, Lacko and Oestreich were able to get a move on and were eventually only half a second apart from each other. Vrsecky, Lacheze, Kiss, Mäkinen and Janiec will also join the starting grid in the top-ten. After the end of the Parc Fermé, the MAN service team had a lot to do: The gearbox on Lacheze’s truck had to be replaced.
