Sunday in Jarama – part 2

10. June 2012Jarama - Until the beginning of the first race of the day the grandstands and the paddock were filled with people and overall there were 10.000 spectators in the end. Most of them came to cheer for “their” Antonio. Albacete had to start from the 5th place and it seemed rather impossible to make him win only by cheering him on. Hahn was not only able to defend his leading position against his persecutors Oestreich and Lacko, but only after a few laps he clearly had the lead. At the same time Albacete constantly attacked his rival Bösiger who is the third MKR-Renault driver. Especially in Jamara the Swiss and the Spaniard have fought some noteworthy and spectacular duels. This time there were no major duels. Albacete immediately pulled into the first gap that he saw and was able to pass Bösiger and three laps later he did the same in a duel with Lacko. Then he started to come closer to the MAN driver Oestreich, but Oestreich gave Albacete a hard time. He tried to pass him from the right and then from the left, but Oestreich was able to fight off every single attempt and eventually placed 2nd right after Hahn who advantageously won the race. One after the other, Lacko, Bösiger and Vrsecky placed 4th, 5th and 6th. Mäkinen and Kiss had a greater distance to the drivers who were ahead of them and placed 7th and 8th. Therefore, the Hungarian won the pole position for the last race. The two remaining ranks in the points were placed by the Frenchman Anthony Janiec (Renault, 9th) and the Spaniard Jose Bermejo (ESP, 10th).
Kiss drove many races for the Seat- Cup and therefore knows Circuito del Jarama inside out. And that is why it was all the more surprising that the Hungarian not only had to give up the lead right in the beginning of the race, but that he also was put back onto the 6th place during the first lap. Halfway through the race, Kiss dropped out due to a technical defect. Mäkinen took over the lead and he was then followed by Bösiger, Albacete, Lacko and Hahn. Soon, Vrsecky and Oestreich joined the group of seven, which had only been 4 seconds apart. Everyone thought that it wouldn’t take long anymore until Albacete would race to the front and take the lead, but not until the 9th lap he managed to pass Bösiger when the Swiss had to lap a slower driver. Afterward he prepared himself to attack Mäkinen, but only one lap later he was back in the 3rd position, because Bösiger had been able to pass the MAN driver. During the last lap Albacete was successful in attacking the Swiss again. Despite the loud support, Albacete was not able to catch up on Mäkinen. In the end the Fin won his first race of the FIA Truckracing Championship – and it was not just written on a sheet of paper for a few hours, as the day before. Bösiger (SUI), who in the end had to fight off his 3rd place against Hahn, got to stand on the podium for the first time. Vrsecky placed 5th and is therefore ranked before Oestreich and Lacko but behind Hahn. Then, for the first time, there was a bigger gap until Janiec and Mariezcurrena followed. Frankie Vojtisek (CZE) placed 10th and therefore received his first point with his new MAN. In the overall ranking Hahn still has the most points (150) and the other drivers as follows: Albacete 142, Oestreich 115, Lacko 90, Vrsecky 76 and Bösiger 66 points. MKR-Technology won in the team ranking before Pneu Bösiger-Team 14 and in the last race they switched places.
