Two Ivecos in Team Schwaben-Truck

Two Ivecos in Team Schwaben-Truck

29. March 2012It is only a few more weeks until the season of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship begins, and that’s why all the teams are working hard to finish everything in time. However, the decisions made by the World Motor Sport Council on March 9th are still being discussed intensively. The last-minute relocation of the 3rd heat of the championship from Albacete, Spain to Jamara near Madrid (where the last race of the season will be) had been decided without the truck racing commission. Two races at one place during one season is something totally new in the FIA ETRC. Some furious protagonists from the truck racing business wrote protesting letters to the FIA, however, meanwhile few believe that something is going to be changed in the truck racing calendar. The Team Schwaben-Truck seems to be unaffected by this, because neither Albacete nor Jamara were scheduled for the season. As last year the Ulm-based Iveco - team will be concentrating on four races: The one in Misano, at the Nürburgring, in Most and the one in Le Mans at the end of the season. Like before, Gerd Köber will be sitting behind the steering wheel. The multiple European Champion from Helmingen, Germany, has been driving from the very beginning for the Team Schwaben-Truck; nothing better could have happened to the manager Schorch Glöckler. The popularity of the driver and his victories had started since the very beginning of his career, which led to a huge media presence of the Ulm - enthusiast. In the end they are all non-professional race mechanics but instead commit their free time and holidays to truck racing. In the hangar and workshops from Thermo King Süd, the tkv – Transport – Kälte - Vertrieb GmbH, they are working week after week and even on late nights. Conveniently though, Thermo King Süd is not only the main sponsor of the Team, but actually a majority of the team works for the company. After great success in the last season they will even be at the starting with a second Iveco – race truck at the TGP at the Nürburgring. The Swiss, Daniel Seiler, will be at the starting line at the Mittelrhein - Race. It is not surprising to see the old truck racing – warhorse from Frauenfeld behind the steering wheel, since the whole Iveco – motor development branch is located in Arbon, Switzerland, which is only 40 km away from Frauenfeld. The success of Glöckler and his men also made it to the higher rankings. The Team Schwaben-Truck will, however, not be able to drive in Zolder, Belgium, because at the same time there will be the IAA commercial vehicle fair in Hannover, Germany. Both race trucks have been fully booked for PR – shows.
