Saturday in Most

30. August 2008Most - Bright sunshine and temperatures around 25 °C (77 °F) prompted large numbers of fans, especially from nearby Germany, to pour into Most, and they witnessed a much rejoiced Buggyra day. Already the timed practice in the morning was dominated by the Czech race team. Right at the first laps all top pilots marked their fastest times, and finally the two Buggyra Freightliner pilots, David Vrsecky – as polesetter – and Markus Bösiger, were again in the front row of the grid. The two MAN drivers, Antonio Albacete and Jochen Hahn, lined up on 3rd and 4th, resp.
And also in the following Qualy race the Buggyra pilots didn’t let anyone get the better of them. Confidently they dominated the race and eventually gained a double win, crossing the finish line in the same order they started. Behind them were Albacete, Hahn and Markus Altenstrasser (Renault), everyone with a safe distance to each other. But for 6th position there was a fight by hook or by crook.
For a long time Egon Allgäuer was leading a quartette with his MAN colleagues Jean-Phillip Belloc and Chris Levett as well as Frankie Vojtisek (Renault) in tow. But only a few laps before the finish Belloc managed to pass Allgäuer. This caused the Austrian to swerve to the outer track and his two other chasers had the opportunity to pass him, too. After the race Vojtisek incurred a 25 second penalty for hitting corner markers several times, which meant that he dropped to 11th place. Belloc, Levett and Allgäuer finished in 6th, 7th and 8th place, resp. The top ten were completed by Stuart Oliver (MAN) and Anthony Janiec (Renault).
As expected, the Championship race was a safe bet for Vrsecky and Bösiger. Right at the start they took again the lead and again came home 1st and 2nd, resp., with a strong start-finish win. And, as before, Albacete and Hahn claimed again an unchallenged 3rd and 4th place, resp. Right at the beginning Levett managed to snatch away 5th position from Altenstrasser. In the fight for 7th place Allgäuer and Belloc clashed so violently that the Frenchman’s steering wheel was damaged and he drove into the crash barriers. During this manoeuvre Allgäuer was overtaken by Oliver and later on by Janiec, too. This meant that the Austrian had to settle with 9th position. The last one for the points ranking was Balazs Szobi (MAN).
In the overall ranking Vrsecky (with 262 points) could further extend his lead over Albacete (236), Bösiger (234), Hahn (184) and Belloc (145).
The team ranking was again won by Buggyra (Bösiger/Vrsecky) ahead of Team Bermejo/Horne. Both these teams had two pilots crossing the finish line, contrary to the teams Koller + Schwemmer (Hahn/Belloc) on third and Team Frankie (Vojtisek/Altenstrasser) on fourth. Belloc had to retire after his collision with Allgäuer and for Vojtisek the race was over after only one lap because of a damaged gear box.
