FIA confirms Dates of 2007 Races

21. December 2006Now the FIA officially confirmed next year’s fixtures for the European Truck Racing Championship. As soon as the people responsible return from their Christmas holidays to their offices in Geneva, as of January 8th, 2007, the period of entry for the teams and drivers will start. There will be an FIA website with log-in-area especially installed for this purpose. The deadline is March 1st, 2007.
Since the 2006 season, truck racing was promoted from Cup to Championship in the FIA hierarchy, so that now truck racing is on a level with all the other FIA Championships, from F1 to the GT to such – in our view – exotic series like the Asia-Pacific-Rally. While all the other winners of the a.m. races, and often even those on second or third position, and furthermore the representatives of the Alternative Energies Cup (which is practically unknown) were honoured at the big FIA Gala in Monaco on mid-December, the winner of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship was left out.
When truck racing was only Cup, it was different. Not only the winners of the SuperRaceTrucks and the RaceTrucks were honoured; still fresh in our mind is the intention of the organizers to even let a SuperRaceTruck drive on the stage – this idea, however, was aborted for static reasons.
Apparently in Geneva they forgot – in spite of the new title – that the FIA European Truck Racing Championship is still the most popular FIA motor sports series in Europe, except for Formula 1.
