Saturday in Zolder - Hahn and Kiss win on Day 1

10. September 2023Zolder - Jochen Hahn and Norbert Kiss won the two races in Zolder Saturday in sunny conditions with temperatures at around 30°C.
Kiss qualified on pole for Race 1 and duly took the lead into the first corner. But a few laps later the Hungarian retired his red MAN with damage to the air handling system, handing the lead – and the eventual win – to Hahn. Sascha Lenz finished second and José Eduardo Rodrigues came in a creditable third.
Race 2 saw multiple collisions in the early laps. One of the biggest casualties was tankpool24 pilot Steffen Faas, who dropped down to the end of the field. Lenz and polesitter and early leader Clemens Hecker were forced to retire later in the race.
Three laps to the finish, Kiss (who had started from the rear of the field) took the lead from Antonio Albacete. On the same lap Faas went off smack into the tyre barriers, resulting in a premature end to what had been a fascinating race. Albacete was classified as the winner ahead of Kiss and André Kursim. But a couple of penalties the Spaniard picked up dropped him to P2, handing the win to Kiss.
