Sunday in Misano Part 3 - The season ends as it began, with a win for Sascha Lenz

17. October 2021Misano - The last race of the Misano weekend, and indeed of the 2021 season, saw an exceptional start by Sascha Lenz from P4, moving ahead of René Reinert and up alongside Steffi Halm, the two first-row starters, in the very first corner. A couple of turns later the newly minted vice-champ was into the lead – and headed for eventual victory.
But as uneventful as the rest of the race was for Lenz, so much more heated was the action that unfolded behind him. Reinert overtook Halm in the early laps and pulled out a gap over his Iveco colleague, leaving the Schwabentruck pilotess to fend off a relentless series of attacks. First Adam Lacko in the Buggyra attempted and failed – spectacularly, – then Antonio Albacete. No matter what her pursuers threw at her, the seasoned Swabian stubbornly held on to her position till the finish.
Classified behind her were
Albacete, Jochen Hahn, Norbert Kiss, Adam Lacko, Lukas Hahn, Jamie Anderson, and Steffen Faas.
The bruising contests back in midfield threw up two noteworthy incidents. On Lap 6 Faas’s Scania was slammed in the side and spun around, and it was only some quick reflexes that prevented the disoriented driver from crashing into the barriers. Having gathered his wits, Faas persevered in the badly battered truck to secure a third-place finish in the Goodyear Cup behind Lukas Hahn and Anderson.
Then, on the penultimate lap, the race was red-flagged after the Buggyra of Aliyyah Koloc pulled off to the side with its turbo on fire. The marshals were quickly at the scene but no further damage resulted.
„Die Bullen von Iveco“ took the team honours, the consolation prizes going to Löwenpower and Team Titan.
