Jarama Preliminary Report

29. September 2021The ETRC teams are all on their way from Circuit Bugatti to Circuito del Jarama in Madrid, where the seventh scheduled round of Europe’s second-most-popular FIA championship will be held this coming weekend.
Jarama has hosted the season finale since 2017, and would have done this year as well had the curtain-raiser in Misano not been transposed to the middle of October. So this year we still have two race weekends to look forward to.
Norbert Kiss continues to top the standings. The Hungarian ace has a 26-points lead over his German MAN rival Sascha Lenz. But with a maximum of 120 points still up for grabs, even such a big-looking lead can dissipate rather quickly.
Only three points lower than Lenz lurks Lacko. The Czech in the Buggyra remains the most consistent scorer this season, even if he won his first race as late as in Zolder.
Following with a somewhat larger gap, but still within striking distance, are the two multiple champions Antonio Albacete and Jochen Hahn. Both have stepped up their scoring in the last couple of weekends, and Hahn demonstrated both in Zolder and in Le Mans that he can win convincingly on his day.
Albacete has a very special home advantage in Jarama – no other pilot is as conversant with this rather demanding circuit as the Madrilène, and none will have the singular support of the many thousand fans that he enjoys here.
The weather too is going to be perfect for racing, with daytime temperatures at around 26°C.
