National Championships 2021 - British Truck Racing Championship

20. February 2021Last month we published here the 2021 calendar of the Championnat de France Camions, one of the most popular national truck racing championships on the planet. The British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) in England and Wales is every PS as popular. Remember that, around 40 years ago, France and England birthed the very sport of truck racing – and that racers from both countries were the founding fathers of today’s European Championship. Over the first couple of decades, pilots from France and the UK were not only the most strongly represented but also (among) the most successful. The picture today is different – in both countries, most of the smaller teams concentrate on their respective national series, not least the result of financial considerations, because a season’s campaign in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship is very much more expensive.
For many years the Brits held one of their rounds on the continent, the races of the Mittelrhein Cup at the Nürburgring counting towards the BTRC. From this year on, they will be superseded on the Eifel by the French. Also with the Brexit it’s going to be very complicated for any team that wants to participate in any event on the continent to move personnel and equipment to and fro.
The BTRC calendar does reserve a weekend in Zolder, Belgium, notwithstanding – coincident with the Zolder round of the ETRC, – although the seven-round list issued by the British Automobile Racing Club BARC, the domestic MSA, makes no mention of any such excursion.
