FIA ETRC rounds in Zolder and Jarama cancelled

06. September 2020The race weekends in Slovakia and at the Nürburgring were cancelled early on, leaving only six events on the 2020 calendar; now it was decided to call off the next two scheduled rounds in Zolder, Belgium, and Jarama, Spain.
The organisers in Belgium announced the cancellation on their Facebook page on 2 September, the day after the FIA switched the opener of the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) on the same weekend from the Salzburgring to Zolder. The Dutch Truck Racing Championship, which made up the supporting programme at Zolder, will go ahead as originally planned. It’s also very likely that some of the FIA teams will enter these races as a test opportunity before the ETRC resumes at the Hungaroring mid-October.
For a long time the races at Circuito del Jarama near Madrid were up in the air; now they too have been definitively cancelled. The circuit indicated that there could only be a FIA event if spectators were allowed. The area will likely be a high-risk zone for several weeks, severely complicating some teams’ return to their respective home bases. However, the races of the Spanish championship, scheduled to take place alongside the FIA ones, could maybe go ahead as planned.
