Saturday in Most Part 2 - Kiss wins the first race of the season

29. August 2020Most - Conditions at the start of the 2020 season’s first race were ideal, although the start itself was delayed by 15 minutes. Polesitter Kiss beat Jochen Hahn to T1, while Lacko leapfrogged Lenz into P3. But they had to go back to square one before the lap was over – a heavy crash in the densely packed midfield in Sector 2 spun Janiec’s MAN out onto the grass. The truck had to be towed away, no longer raceworthy. The race was red-flagged.
The restart followed the original grid minus Janiec, and this too Kiss dominated, going on to win the race unchallenged to the flag. The real competition took place behind the MAN pilot. This time Lenz stoutly defended his position against Lacko and promptly hitched his MAN to the rear of Hahn’s Iveco, but both Germans had Lacko looming in their mirrors. The quartet set themselves apart from the rest of the field, Halm, Calvet, and Reinert in P7 following at some remove. Calvet soon dropped out with a flat tyre.
At the front, meanwhile, the die had been cast, with only P2 and P3 possibly still in play. In the event it was Jochen Hahn who took second place a half-second ahead of Lenz, the long-lurking Lacko a further second adrift.
Halm and Reinert seemed secure in their positions, so the attention turned to the battle for P7 and P8, which would mean a front-row start in Race 2. After trading places back and forth, Anderson followed Reinert home ahead of German tankpool24 pilot Steffen Faas (Scania). But then Reinert was handed a 10 second overspeed penalty, moving Anderson and Faas up one position each. Reinert now had pole for the next race – but the drama wasn’t over yet. Long after the end of the race, Faas picked up 30 seconds for “Causing a collision”. Reinert moved to seventh and 16-year-old Czech debutante Aliyyah Koloc (Buggyra Freightliner) was promoted to pole.
Newly announced Team Titan (Albacete / Kiss) took the team honours ahead of „Die Bullen von Iveco“ (Jochen Hahn / Steffi Halm) and Löwenpower (Anderson / Lenz). The Promoter’s Cup podium had Anderson and Aliyyah Koloc.
